Differentiating Technical Writing From Business Writing

In the business sector,writing is a valuable skill one needs to possess in order to succeed in their desired career path.Not only does it pave a way for your own career advancement, it is also a necessary ingredient that any organization need in-order to achieve their designed objectives. In this article, l will be narrowing down to two most effective writing styles highlighting what they are and how they differ from each other.

Definitions

Technical Writing

It is a method where one takes high-level complex information and processes it into simple, clear and easy to understand for any target audience. Communication is one form of way where technical writers focus majorly like :

  • editing or rewriting software documentation to make them user friendly.
  • writing step-by-step tutorials on how to set up different environments.
  • adding user guide for applications and instructions on how to use them.
  • provide information on how to integrate tools into a project.

Business Writing

It is a form of communication in organizations that conveys relevant information to a reader/ audience.Its ultimate goal is to ensure information from everybody is smoothly disseminated. Here are some of the examples:

  • Proposals - these are pitches directed at other entities. Persuasive in nature aiming the audience to use,buy or promote their services

  • Memos - Messages conveyed within the organization.Direct language used together with short paragraphs.

  • Advertisements - The information delivered appeals to consumer desires

Tech Vs Business Writing

The major difference between those two genres is their purpose.

  • In business writing, the language of commerce focuses on the main goal of it's organization that is profit and their writing conveys information to immediate personnel,clients and ultimately the general public.
  • Technical writing majoritly communicates with experts in the same field giving more in-depth and seeks to educate and engage with it's audience.

Conclusion

Despite their slight differences, one can agree that effective writing requires dedication,passion and consistency. It doesn't matter which field or what purpose is to be achieved, writing is a very fundamental aspect of any organization. A positive environment is much needed for the flourishment of this peculiar skill.
